A true gem. If you're lucky enough to know about this place a visit is essential. Get there early though, there's only around 4 campsites on the river.
The best camping on the Boardman River! Brown Bridge Road divides the campground into East & West sides (Scheck's trail-camp is .5 miles east) The canoe launch and a few campsites are on the East side. The West side provides a larger camping area on a big loop road in addition to a day-use area with a barrier-free viewing/fishing platform at the water's edge.
Great campsite but not very quiet in the mornings. There were motorbikes on the nearby snowmobile trails as well as dump trucks making frequent trips to and from a house behind the campground. Also be careful following Google's directions to the campsite - it had us take our little car through some pretty treacherous snowmobile trails that were mistakenly labeled as roads. Otherwise, beautiful campground located on a nice river. Short drive to the nearest town with a great convenience store. Also 30 minutes from Traverse city.
Love this campground! Bf and I went here for our 1 year anniversary. It was so relaxing and we plan to return as soon as possible.
NOTE: Parking a vehicle at Scheck's requires a Michigan Recreation Passport.
There is a total of 30 rustic sites for tents & RVs, handicap accessible vault toilets & water from several hand-pumps. (some big RVs can be accommodated, however, generators are discouraged) Each campsite has a picnic table & fire ring.
The campground is surrounded by Brown Bridge Quiet Area which provides miles of hiking & biking opportunities; other nearby trails include the North Country Trail (passes through the campground), Muncie Lakes Pathway (can be reached via the NCT) and the Vasa Pathway (the single-track trail head is about 5 miles from Scheck's).
Absolutely beautiful spot! great camping!
