I've been seeing Stephanie for my hair and brows for many years now and continue to be impressed! Her charming but professional attitude partnered with expert skills makes her my absolute go-to in Traverse City. She always does an amazing job and does it with a smile. I highly recommend making an appointment with her!
Wendy: One of the girls got her hair done by Wendy and it looked like she was wearing a sideways mullet, party on one side business on the other, or that hairstyle that is shaved up one side with the rest of the hair hanging down the other...horrible. The girl let her try to fix it multiple times and eventually just said screw it. My sister-in-law got her make-up done by Wendy and she couldn't even apply fake lashes. How the heck are you going to say you can do make-up and charge the same price as Julie who can put fake lashes on and you can't do it. I was also disappointed that when Wendy admitted and gave up that Julie didn't step in and say she would finish my sister in-laws look.
My hairdresser, Stephanie, works at this salon. Her talent never ceases to amaze me! This cute shop is in a great location - I encourage you to check it out!
The stylsit let me leave with yellow hair. Literally asked for a full highlight. My hair lifts really easy.... and have never had an issue being platinum. I had brown spots in my hair, and she didn't use a single foil and I usually have a couple hundred in there! She tried balayage which she had to ask how to do.... and I didn't ask for that ! It was awful !!!!!!! She said she'd fix it but then wouldn't call me back. And then only gave me a small portion of refund for her mistake! Poor professional service, in my opinion highlighting is hair 101. DO NOT GO HERE! the other stylists were eyeing up my hair during the process too and when it was done like ooooh what happened but didn't say anything to her or me. I can not believe they let me leave looking like that.
The second girl was very specific about what she wanted and this stylist just couldn't grasp it! She put it up and took it down three times, before my bridesmaid just said to heck with it. Let me tell you the last attempt was atrocious. Messy, hair hanging out and frizzy in what looked to be an attempted french twist. So disappointed.
My experience at Salon Elan was off to a shaky start, the stylist I saw was Stephanie Maguire. It took consecutive visits because the first attempt turned out so awful. I was willing to let that go but then discovered that I was charged 195.00 dollars on my credit card for a 95.00 service. I disputed the charge with my credit card company and following their initial inquiry they said I paid a 100.00 tip!!! I contacted Stephanie who claimed ignorance but offered to mail me 50.00. I stated that I would not have given a 55.00 dollar tip on a 95.00 service ( especially after it took two trips to the salon ). I will co tinue to pursue this issue as fully as possible but if you were referred to Stephanie DONT DO IT. I don't know what happened with my card but I will say that due to "technical difficulty" she swipped it twice and I certainly did NOT write 100.00 on tip line...really!! The lack of integrity this stylist has is o my second to her lack of skill.
All in all I loved Julie, but these other stylists are bringing you down. And if you are going to offer make-up services at your salon, your stylists should be trained properly and able to do exactly what your clients need. I find it laughable that your stylists thought some of their updos were even passable enough to charge us. Thank you for my beautiful look and a couple of the other bridesmaids who were done by Julie were outstanding!
Does well with men's hair cuts
Other girl with short brown hair: She did two of the girls hair that I was less than disappointed by. One of them was my sister who has rather thick curly hair and takes a little bit of extra effort. This stylist literally put a braid in it then threw it in a disgusting messy bun in the back. After her make-up was finished I requested she redo the bun portion at least, she had every chance to redeem herself, she didn't. It was somewhat less messy, but still something I could have done better myself for free.
I am giving this salon three stars only because of the awesome experience I had and how great a handful of my girls looked. This appointment was booked for my wedding day and Julie and Julie alone is amazing. She should really reconsider Wendy and I am not sure of the other girls name, we got our hair and makeup done May 31st 2014. There where a total of 10 of us, which adds up to big bucks for the salon and a few of my girls left absolutely unhappy and we had to fix them ourselves.
