I have always loved this store, but my last visit left me extremely frustrated with lousy customer service. We bought a large order and needed to have it shipped. Seemed there were a lot of employees, sadly they must not get a lunch break as they were all gathered behind the counter eating their lunches and snacks. The person checking us out seemed to have great difficulty accomplishing this task. It took about 20 minutes and 5 employees to complete the transaction. We got a half hearted “I’m sorry” as we were dismissed. We asked for a receipt for our purchase and he told us we don’t get one, they would email it. If we don’t get an email, just call. He told us that the party would receive the package on Tuesday because it was 2 day shipping. We left feeling uneasy. Two days later, still no email. I call, no one answers the phone, I have to leave my name and phone number, two hours later, no one calls me back and the store closes. Next day, store is open 1.5 hours, no call. I call back, the person that answers says she can’t send me a receipt...and the package won’t arrive till Wednesday night. She said they don’t have two day shipping on Saturday...this was not expressed to us. She said all she could do was give me a tracking number. So...why did you need my email in the first place???? Spend that kind of money and not even get a receipt? The attitude was I was being ridiculous for wanting one...what happened to this store??? I am sad it is not what it used to be, friendly, helpful, and accommodating.
This is one of my favorite places to visit when going to Traverse City. Great selection of goodies and awesome wine bar! Great service and friendly staff.
Below was an original post that I wrote with a one star rating, however the store’s response to the situation was so amazing that I had to change my review to five stars.
*As I walked in with my service dog today I was approached by a employee who informed me that she was required to ask for my dog’s paperwork even though he was clearly wearing his service gear. I was stunned as no one has ever asked me to do this. I told her his paperwork was in the glove box of my car and I was told I couldn’t be in the store unless I provided the papers. I left in the downpouring ran to get the papers and then I noticed that it went against the American Disability’s Act to ask me for further documentation. I feel what was asked of me today was discrimination against anyone with a disability. I was there to celebrate my birthday but instead was embarrassed and made to feel unwelcome. My dog was doing exactly what he was supposed to during this event, he was by my side, quiet, and working. I don’t understand why this company would require their employees to demand documentation when he was clearly a service dog. What a discouraging birthday.
What a fun place to shop, our family has shopped here for years.Every Christmas and Birthday's.One likes the wine, another the salsa's Grandbabies love the cherry gummy bears and sour cherry candy,my favorite is the jelly's,bought pepper jelly this time, cherry almond is my favorite. I also bought some of the cherry mustard for the holidays, will be good with some cheese, salami and crackers. Can't wait to get into it!! The employees were all very attentive and helpful and looked like enjoyed working there.
***Cherry Republic did contact me and rectified the situation. Dawn was amazing and handled it very professionally. Unfortunately, I can not remove this review, so I am choosing to add an update!! I did get my receipts and she made things right! She has made me feel it will be good to go back shopping there with confidence that my next experience will be a much better one! Thanks Dawn!!!!
Busy location full of a wide variety of smells and tastes. The inclusion of both a small cafe and wine tasting area provides plenty to enjoy while you visit Traverse City. Have kids? No problem! There's a small play area (seriously small) with a ball pit and slide so they can keep out of trouble while you try up to 5 free wine samples or spend $7 for unlimited selection along with a nice cup. Try the Icewine, it's worth it.
Although I felt discriminated during my visit, good has come of it. I was informed that this was not store policy and that it was an isolated incident with one employee and that would be corrected. I was promised that there would be actions taken to inform all employees of the rights of the disabled and that they were very sorry for my bad experience. They even offered me a birthday present as an apology! This store has always been a family favorite, and even though I had one bad experience there, I would highly recommend to anyone that this is a must place to stop into while visiting TC.
